Red Sox WPA through 5/10/06

Well, you knew the Yankees weren't going to continue botching five plays a night to hand us the victory, right? This time, we had to settle for watching Giambi boot a Trot Nixon line drive and then kick the ball off the field, which was reasonably entertaining. But still, it's tough to lose to the Yankees for the first time in the season, particularly when the bats were swinging well early in the game. Bright spots? Ortiz's 12th HR, of course. And Lowell's third. Mike Lowell is now hitting .336, and his .965 OPS is creeping up on Manny's. The bullpen (post-Holtz, anyway) was solid, with another 1-2-3 inning from Paps.

Bonus Yankees coverage. The first graph is just for this game, and the second graph is their season WPA totals in the three games against the Red Sox. So far it has been Cano and Giambi who have been hurting us most consistently. It's nice to see Damon edging out Randy Johnson for the "Least Valuable Yankee" award.
